Encoder signals are susceptible to noise, since the waveforms they generate are very often used in noisy environments. Differential encoders usually help to alleviate such problems, but may require additional filtering. Our ESH 250 Series boards contain a four-stage digital filter to make sure that incoming signals are valid for a minimum of at least four clock cycles. This approach produces a very sharp cutoff frequency while simultaneously synchronizing all data transfers to the clock cycle, helping to prevent potential conflicts.
The ESH 250 Series boards can be used as 24-bit counter(s) as well. Programmable 24-bit counters (1 per channel) maintain count with an accuracy of one part in 16 million. Counters may be cascaded as one 96-bit counter to four 24-bit counters (ESH 254) and any other logical combination in between. Our ESH Series boards may be programmed for pulse and direction inputs as well as quadrature inputs. For pulse and direction mode, the maximum input rate is 10 MHz, which is much higher than the quadrature rate. |
